Storytelling and self reflection
In my view, the following practice is very useful for developing your story’s characters. Especially for beginners.
First, put yourself in your character’s shoes and use self-inquiry questions to determine their personality, aspirations, dreams, and challenges they have to overcome during their hero’s journey.
Ask yourself — as though you are your character — questions like:
What do I like about myself?
What do I not like about myself?
Which parts of myself do I hide from other people?
When I think of these, how does this make me feel?
Which parts of myself do I judge and not accept?
Who in the past judged these traits of mine? How do I show up in relationships with others?
What level of authenticity do I feel safe to express?
What am I afraid to show?
There are many questions you can ask.
As you can imagine, by asking yourself such questions, you’ll not only deepen your connection to your character but can also uncover a thing or two about yourself as a person.
If this resonates with you, let me know in the comments.
Thanks for reading.
